Peggy Engel
Hand Painted Tiles
and
Assemblage
Peggy Engel
infuses whimsy and the gentility of nature into her hand painted tile works.
She paints magical worlds of childlike wonder:
Figures and animals reside within the shade of trees
and the slumber of a quiet afternoon siesta speaks of the silence of the forest
or of that small, secret clearing in the woods.
joie de vivre,
that joy of life,
is another aspect evident in all of Engel's art.
Engel also combs the Albuquerque Salvage Yard for pieces/parts
that somehow end up living a brand new life in her assemblage work.
In "The Secret of Survival",
a key, old photographs and metal are juxtaposed in such a manner
as to suggest a cryptic, ancient story unfolding behind the image.
Personal yet universal,
this work takes us into another world:
the magical world of Peggy Engel.
